This is the first exhibition of the Sydney artist Ralph Balson's work to be mounted by a museum and the first major historical survey of the significant Australian modernist. From the mid 1930s until his death in 1964, Balson's work underwent significant stylistic changes, visually documenting his experimentation with post-impressionism, cubism, geometric and painterly abstraction and matter painting.
